Art Auction to celebrate 40th Anniversary
Four much-loved Central Otago artists will be placing their art on the auction block, Saturday 26th October, when Wanaka Arts opens their doors for Opening Night to their Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Exhibition.
The auction will be one of the headlining events with the proceeds destined for purchasing an artwork for the shores of Lake Wanaka. This purchase underscores Wanaka Arts values of showcasing local art within the region for the whole community to enjoy.
Gavin Vize, of Harcourts Wanaka, is calling the much-anticipated auction and is eager to see the excitement these works will generate. The artists are:
Deidre Copeland, considered one of New Zealand’s finest portrait painters, has offered her limited edition etching of Alan Brody titled, ‘Wild Irishman’.
Angus (Gus) Watson, has offered for auction ‘Cows’. A perfect example of his trademark style of playing with colours and allowing them to bounce off and bleed into each other.
Jane Sinclair, has captured the dramatic light, colour and palette knife texture of ‘Wanaka Reflections’ in her art work for auction.
Susie Ruddenklau, a past President of Wanaka Arts, is offering ‘The Lighthouse’ - a fine example of her evocative watercolour artworks.
Labour Weekend will be a 4 day art extravaganza for the public to get involved. There’ll be live music, canapes and drinks during the opening night event preceding the prize giving ceremony with $4450 of prize money to be awarded. A celebration-themed ‘Ruby Red’ tiered cake will be cut and over 200 original artworks are for sale in the exhibition. A cash and carry gift shop is selling smaller art pieces, merchandise and prints. Another highlight; ‘Artists Discussion with Grahame Sydney’ Saturday 26th from 3.30pm in front of an exclusive audience.
